TREIBSAND, DVD MAGAZINE ON CONTEMPORARY ART, looks at current trends in international art. Each volume explores essential questions and concerns of a specific region or country and each is co-curated by a different artist. The DVD not only presents works of art, but also statements by those involved in the world of arts and culture, reflecting important aspects of society and giving an insight into art and its discourses.

Analysing While Waiting (For Time To Pass): Contemporary Art in Tehran sheds light on contemporary and emerging art in Tehran, concentrating predominantly on an analytical stance in times of waiting. Waiting for the future may be expressed as yearning or depression, or it may appear as a long, protracted period in which past and present are analysed in depth from a personal and post-colonialist viewpoint. The concept has been drawn up in close collaboration with the artist Parastou Forouhar (Frankfurt am Main/Tehran).

Waiting: an endlessly expanding time capsule in which energy is either paralysed or nervously pent up. On closer inspection, however, we find the possibility of transforming the apparent standstill into a temporal fluidity capable of turning time into a valuable tool for exploring reality, experimenting with thought and developing alternatives for the future. Real as the present may be, with all its concomitant phenomena, it nevertheless remains a hypothesis, an invention, that could just as easily be otherwise.

In search of the utopias generated by art, Parastou Forouhar and Susann Wintsch embarked on this project with no particular preconceived concept in mind. On no fewer than five reconnaisance trips, we simply followed the recommendations and interpretations offered by those we met. With their assistance, we learned to read between the lines of the discourse and debate between artists and art critics of various leanings. In the end, we found a possible ‚point of crystallisation' that enabled us to think more clearly: Analysing While Waiting (For Time To Pass). Our thoughts about the ephemeral nature of the present are documented on this DVD.
